So You're in Charge Around Here, Is That Fair to Say?
Travis | Apr 20, 2010 |As you may know, CACNP Nonpro Director Leonor Tomero has moved over to the House Armed Services Committee. Great for her, great for arms control, and great for America. She will be sorely missed.
Apparently CACNP realized that there was no point trying to find someone as talented and gracious as Leonor. So they decided to make Kingston Reif like a boss:
Talk to Isaacs (like a boss)
Approve blog posts (like a boss)
Lead a press call (like a boss)
Remember Kyl quotes (like a boss)
Congrats to Kingston, the new Director of Nuclear Non-Proliferation at CACNP.
Now it looks like they need someone to take over Kingston's former slot. Sweet gig. Tell your friends.

Travis | Jan 22, 2010 |Get money get money get money:
The Belfer Center's International Security Program (ISP) has been has been invited to participate in a new nuclear security fellowship program funded by the Stanton Foundation. Nuke Forensics Bill Set to Become Law
Travis | Jan 22, 2010 |Yesterday the House passed HR 730, the Nuclear Forensics and Attribution Act. The bill is headed to President Obama for his signature now that it has passed both houses of Congress.
As explained by lead sponsor Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA),
The Nuclear Forensics and Attribution Act will authorize the National Technical Nuclear Forensics Center at DHS to coordinate the government’s nuclear forensics efforts and encourage technicians and scientists to enter the field. It will also call upon the President to lead international efforts to share nuclear forensics data.
The legislation establishes a National Nuclear Forensics Expertise Development Program, which will include such goodies as:
• Undergraduate scholarships (including at least one summer internship at a national lab or related federal agency)
• Doctoral fellowships (with a commitment to work on nuke forensics for the government for at least two years afterward)
• 3-5 year research grants for faculty and grad students
• Other scholarship opportunities (especially for students from historically underrepresented communities, except no mention of women – what up with that?)
Pretty good stuff for technically-inclined baby wonks to get after once this program starts humming along.
*All Options Are on the Table* Scraps
Travis | Nov 16, 2009 |Our sister organization, Council for a Livable World, regularly sends out snail mail fundraising letters on behalf of congressional candidates that it has endorsed. Sometimes the letters are returned with heartfelt messages thanking CLW for all of its hard work. Sometimes the letters are returned with more unorthodox points of view. Here’s one CLW received a few weeks ago (appropriately smudged to maintain NOH’s immaculate decorum):

One Week Until Scoville Fellowship Deadline
Travis | Oct 02, 2009 |Check the website for more information. As a former Scoville, I can’t speak highly enough of the experience. Fantastic in every regard.
Apply now – the program needs some smart young fellows to help it recover from a recent sharp decline in quality.
Now Hiring
Travis | Sep 08, 2009 |With Katie promoted to Director of World Domination, the Center is looking for a new Office Manager/Policy Associate. Details here. Join the team.
It doesn’t hurt to mention in your cover letter that you read NOH. In the past, we have definitely hired people who name-dropped our blogs. What can I say – we like people who appear to be as immersed in this Nerdery as we are.
